Editing binary files in Delphi

Recommended Posts

Did you know that you can edit binary files inside the IDE?

Just open a binary file in the IDE and you get a simple HEX editor.

Yes, I knew. And since the IDE hijacks drag&drop of files on some of its (and some plugin's) dialogs, I'm not very pleased with this. (e.g. Try to drag a file onto the GExperts "PE Information Expert". It works fine in the stand alone version, but when it's open in the IDE the file doesn't get opened in the PEIE but in the stupid hex editor.

"Simple" is an understatement :classic_biggrin:

You can pretty much type any character you want wherever you want.

It just throws an error if you want to save it and it isn't valid.
