Running the Delphi IDE in Microsoft Application Virtualization?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever used Microsoft Application Virtualization for running the Delphi IDE in a kind of virtualized sandbox on a Windows 10 x64 desktop environment?

Application Virtualization (also known as Process Virtualization) is a software technology that encapsulates computer programs from the underlying operating system on which it is executed. A fully virtualized application is not installed in the traditional sense, although it is still executed as if it were.

I do all "important" stuff in VirtualBox VMs.

Most of the problems relate to the screen and DWM, DX skins and so on. Excessive repainting of the IDE (time consuming).

Especially when i "inadvertently" resize something...

I have no specifics on MSs new stuff. Interested, though as all my hosts are Win10.

I find it difficult to keep track of all the different products and technologies. VirtualBox is easy, I got that. Hyper-V appears to be more or less the same, it's a virtual computer running on some host (like my local machine).

Then, there is the new Windows Sandbox.

And there is "Application Guard" which allows some applications (like a browser) to run in a shielded environment, but display regular windows on my desktop. And then there is "App-V", which has been around since Windows 7, I think. Are they related?
