Recommended Posts

Can you suggest me how much RAM for M4 Macbook should it have to Run RAD Studio 12 for developing all Platforms (iOS, Android, Mac, Linux and Windows)?

Apple's RAM and disk prices are ridiculous, but personally I'd go for at least 24GB and 1TB.
My MBP M1 has 32GB/2TB.

If you just have one VM (presumably Windows, with Delphi) running at any one time, and don't run a bunch of memory hogging apps (e.g. VS Code, most of the popular browsers etc), you can get by with 16GB. I did for years, but when I started often having more than one VM running at a time (as well as VS Code etc), I shifted to a 32GB machine.

You could also switch to a MacMini or MacStudio, to save money in general.
I will move away from MacBook in the future ( when Apple decides to make updates impossible ), to such lower-cost items (already tested on MacMini M2 16GB as remote build maching, but I would recommend more GB for using VMs).

Concerning that the MacBook keyboard is unsuitable for heavy use, so I do need a high quality external keyboard and larger display anyway.

Only if you want to produce small scripts while drinking coffee in a sunny place, then the cost of Apple mobility is perhaps worth the price tag IMHO. :classic_biggrin:

I mainly use it stationary right now, which make little sense.

OT:

I normally do it during summer days on a beach :classic_biggrin: but with a Windows PC (and not for a small scripts) .... drinking beer and looking at the sea. :classic_biggrin:

I can't wait for summer to finally arrive.

Sorry for the OT but reading the post made me feel nostalgic for summer.
