Rollo62 536 Posted July 10, 2020 Hi there, I found by accident the Dev-Cpp project on the Embarcadero-Github. Whats the idea behind, is this intended as replacement for the old, free BCC5 compiler, or what ? Share this post Link to post
pyscripter 689 Posted July 10, 2020 (edited) No. It is (was) a stand-alone free and open source C/C++ IDE, working with the GNU compiler toolset built with Delphi and quite popular at its prime. There is a fork that includes a form designer for WxWidgets GUI applications. Does anyone recall the short-lived commercial C++ wxWidgets (then called WxWindows) Borland IDE (unrelated to Dev-C++)? I can't even remember what it was called. Edited July 10, 2020 by pyscripter Share this post Link to post
Der schöne Günther 316 Posted July 10, 2020 (edited) Oh my, Dev-Cpp brings back memories. I never knew it was built with Delphi/C++ Builder. Edited July 10, 2020 by Der schöne Günther Share this post Link to post
Rollo62 536 Posted July 10, 2020 (edited) Never recognized that this was a Delphi project, like you said, it was a populat free GNU IDE. From my point of view this had never anything to do with Delphi/Borland, beside maybe that C++Builder was able to compile it. Anyway, good to have it here. The Java-based IDE (using the JBuilder architecture) that was released after Borland EOL'ed C++Builder 6, and before CodeGear resurrected C++Builder in BDS 2005. Using wxWidgets with the Borland C++ BuilderX There is also TwinForms, which is a wxWidgets Form Designer for C++Builder. Edited July 10, 2020 by Remy Lebeau 1 Share this post Link to post

Well I think I installed it one time from binaries, but I never really looked into it. Was always sure this was completely GNU c++ based, with MINGW, and all that stuff. But now its clear, the IDE and tools are separate. Maybe its worth to have a second look at it now. Edited July 11, 2020 by Rollo62 Share this post Link to post
