PeterPanettone 161 Posted Saturday at 06:17 AM (edited) Today, when running the Delphi 12.2 IDE in Windows 11 24H2, I got this warning message: For what purpose does "Embarcadero need my location"? Edited Saturday at 06:39 AM by PeterPanettone 2 1 Share this post Link to post

FPiette 391 Posted Saturday at 01:35 PM I never got that warning. Does it occurs each time you run the IDE? Share this post Link to post
Remy Lebeau 1545 Posted Saturday at 05:29 PM (edited) Embarcadero doesn't want your location. This warning is starting to show up for a lot of network-enabled apps. A recent Windows update is enforcing permission to Wifi info, as it CAN be used to reveal your location, which is a privacy concern. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/whats-new/whats-new-windows-11-version-24h2#windows-location-improvements Quote A new prompt appears the first time an app attempts to access your location or Wi-Fi information. PeterPanettone 161 Posted Saturday at 07:29 PM Since I currently don't use Wi-Fi (I prefer more secure network cable connections), I wonder how an app may try to get my location data. Share this post Link to post
blawen 0 Posted Saturday at 11:56 PM Whether the connection is via cable or WLan is irrelevant for determining the position. Share this post Link to post

Die Holländer 82 Posted yesterday at 06:53 AM So, if the message is because of a Windows update does that mean Rad studio has always asked for your location without the notification of Windows beforte the update? Share this post Link to post
DelphiUdIT 218 Posted yesterday at 03:32 PM (edited) There are many ways to "find" your location. Some involving Windows and others not. May be Windows put some of them in the privacy "contour" now. It's like filtering a DNS, if the OS (or even the provider) want to catch and filter the normal DNS request ... they can do now, never or in the future (until you use some private DNS services). Now you don't have any advise about DNS, but in the future may be you'll have some advise if Windows choose to filter it. I had the WIndows location service not active, there is no reason to activate it in my PC. Normally I know where I am .... Edited yesterday at 03:33 PM by DelphiUdIT Share this post Link to post
