DPM Package Manager - presentation

Hi All

 

A few weeks ago I did a zoom presentation about DPM to the Australian Delphi User Group (Melbourne branch, but anyone could attend).

The video is nearly 2hrs long, but the presentation part is only the first 50 min or so (the rest is q&a/discussion).  If you want to skip past the boring slides to the demo it starts at 24:40 😉

is the discussion still open viz-a-viz a better name for the project; a name that is short, memorable, cute etc (like ruby gems, cargo/crate, dart pub) ?

Sure, I'm still open to suggestions, I have had plenty already but so far nothing that has stuck (lots of bad puns, or names that are already in use for other things).

My unsolicited suggestion: VPAM (vee-pam)- Vincent's PAckage Manager aka Vincent Parrett's Asset Manager 🙂 
VPAM currently gives less than 300k hits on Google and the existing ones appear not to be in the software/IT sector.

🤣 - I would hope that this project won't just be my personal package manager that only I use - that said, VPAM sounds like a kind of missile or weapon!

vraptor is a java mvc framework.

Maybe so, it came from a text from Goethe, here in a Googled translation

How about "Deliver". Have a go yourself at making it mean something - as for example "Delphi intelligent package manager" and then something with "version" 🙂

Sorry, DOPE is nothing what programmers are aware of.

Then better call it COFFEE "clean object file fragmentizer for external entities" .

I think it's pointless trying to comer up with a "cool" abbreviation. Just pick a name that has some good derivative or related words that can be used for the "bundles" and such. "DOPE" fit's that criteria nicely

Yeah I get they were jokes 😉

 

FWIW, I like dpm, it's short, simple, meaningful (Delphi Package Manager) however an anther tool got there first and the author has requested I change it. However, it would have to be a very good new name for me to change it.

DPP (Delphi Package Porter)

DLA (Delphi Library Archiver)

LP    (Delphi Library Porter)

LM   (Delphi Library Manager)

 

Last two are nice names for command tool.
