    Hands-On Design Patterns with Delphi

Mixed. They do their job, but you can definitely tell that it is an Indian team behind. Everything is "yes, of course" and then maybe something happens. Or maybe not. Plus they are very set in some formulaic ways - if you want to write a book, it has to fall into some already defined slot for which they know how they want organize it and then they insist on their way (how the content should be structured, what is allowed and what not etc). That is helpful, but also limiting and frustrating. Most of the time it works the best if you also say "yes, of course" and then do it in your own way. 🙂 Technical staff and editors are mediocre, at best. They definitely will not catch all errors. So - if you are looking for a perfect partner, they are not the one. If, however, you can just say "eh, whatever" from time to time and move on, they work just fine. They do pay on time, though. As for the other publishing houses, I have no idea.

    VCL - DevExpress

    Yes.
  4. I posted a blog article on this topic yesterday: https://www.ideasawakened.com/post/name-your-threads-even-the-ones-auto-created-by-delphi I'm curious how many others do this sort of thing. I think it really comes in handy sometimes. I also went looking for the reasons behind each of the Delphi-created threads, other than the main message loop. Do you have any info on that? I could swear I read an article on it years ago, but couldn't find it.

Well. That is, after all, a significant word.

Indy 9.0.18 on Delphi 6. Where can i get 9.0.50?

Be sure to read https://github.com/IndySockets/Indy/wiki/Updating-Indy (though, it doesn't appear to cover how to uninstall Indy 9, so you'll have to work that out for yourself). Is there a problem with it? Can you be more specific? If you have recompiled Computil.exe and it works on XP as well as up to Win11, then can you send it to me so I can check it back into Indy's GitHub repo? Thanks. Make sure you compile IndySystem60.dpk first. You need to uninstall the earlier Indy from the IDE before you can install Indy 10. Same issue. Same issue. That is the Indy package that came pre-installed in the IDE. You should be able to find it in the IDE's "Install Packages" dialog. Yeah! Sounds about right. Indy 10 has a different directory structure than Indy 9, yes. This will be cleaned up in Indy 11. Yes.

BTW, I very much appreciate all of the suggestions and ideas.

O K ... mystery solved ... It looked like a data overrun problem because ... it was. I failed to create an instance of the DataModule I was using, and somehow the first part worked, but the later part looked like it had been overwritten ... which it had. In my experience, when objects haven't been created, they blow up right away. I'll have to remember this -- strange memory overwrite symptoms can be because the object wasn't created!

    Puzzled by StrToDate

using mask "MMM/d/yyyy" it's works! = no exception! Now, "Names" = month-names short! MSWindows Datetime formats: MM = nn MMM = Sss NOTE: in my RAD11.2 "mmm" works too!

Current subscription required to download ?

Well that's annoying.. I've just checked my Registered Products Portal, and I can no longer download the last version - Delphi Berlin 10.1 - that my Subscription Updates took me to before I ended my subscription. Like the OP, I maintain that I should be allowed to download the latest version which I had paid for, without having to renew my subscription.
